I'm Back... I hope!

I recently looked at the date of my last blog post and not so shockingly, it was almost a year ago. I'm good at a lot of things and it seems blogging ain't one of them. It is definitely NOT for lack of material. It seems Aubrey and Owen live their life as if someone were going to write a blog post about it. The problem is they don't leave me any time to actually write. And now with Baby Finn #3 on the way, I am under no illusions that I will get better. But I am going to try!! Every event of Aubrey's first two years were documented in detail and I can at least make a solid effort for Owen and his soon-to-be-brother. There may not be any words of wisdom, or witty comments but at least everyone will know what is going on with the Finn kids.

Mixed Feelings

So, today was a big step... we dropped Aubrey off at her first day of preschool. She knew it was coming and she was ready... sort of. We have been talking about it since I signed her up in January. Mommy would drop her off and pick her up after she was done learning and playing for the day. How if she needed anything, she could ask Mrs. Ossi. That she would have SO much fun meeting new friends, learning new songs and games... so I packed her requested lunch of PB & J (no crust and cut into triangles), Dora drinkable yogurt, apple slices, raisins and water in her princess water bottle then we took her out for breakfast at Bob Evans. Finally after much anticipation and hoopla we were off to school. Kevin and I walked her in, snapping pictures and shooting video the entire way. I'm not sure what I expected, but all of a sudden it was over. Mrs. Ossi scooped her up with a big hug and ushered her into the room. I had to ask for a hug and a kiss and after I gave her one I think reality set in. The promises of coming back to get her and meeting new friends went right out the window and the tears started (from Aubrey, not me). We snuck around back and tried to peek into her classroom window withough seeming too ridiculous. I'm sure she stopped after a few minutes and is at school right now listening to a story or playing with a new firend... yes, I'm sure she stopped crying by now. I truly hope she has a fabulous time this morning but most of all, I hope she wants to go back on Thursday!

Aubrey-1, Daddy-0

Yet another conversation between Aubrey and her daddy that I have to write down so I don't forget it...

Aubrey: I want to read two stories tonight daddy.

Kevin: Sounds good to me!

Aubrey: Let's read Barney and Dora!

Little did Kevin know (but I'm sure Aubrey did) that she had chosen two of the longst stories on her bookshelf.

Kevin: Wow Aubrey, that was a long story. I don't think we'll be able to read the next one.

Aubrey: (Ever so innocently) Why not daddy?

Kevin: Well, because it's so long and we've already read a very long story tonight.

Aubrey: Oh that's OK. I have very good ears.

Take a wild guess as to whether or not they read the second book...

Not To be Outdone

Kevin was putting Aubrey to bed tonight and I was starting to wonder if he would ever come out (I found out later that he stayed in an extra long time tonight because he had daddy-guilt about having to hold her down to get her to brush her teeth). Aubrey came out to give me her usual, "kiss, hug and squeeze" goodnight and Kevin prompted her to tell me what they had been talking about. They had been discussing what she should be when she grows up. According to their conversation tonight, Aubrey wants to be a doctor. I wasn't all that surprised given the number of checkups I've had over the past year. She was also an expert hand-holder when Owen got his six-month shots last week.

So she sat down and they told me all the new body party she had learned (no, nothing inappropriate). She pointed out my shins, calves, ankles, etc. She and Kevin decided that she would be the boss (surprise, surprise) and have three rooms. One for kids, one for grown-ups and one for babies. We also got her to agree that Kevin and I could come in for free check-ups... I mean, it's the least she could do!

When all the discussion was finished about her career ot choice, I asked her what she though Owen should be. And she said, "A leaf raker."
She Will Always Be a "Big" Sister!

Owen had his 6-month checkup on Friday... and we may have a linebacker on our hands! He weighed in at 17 pounds 12 ounces and was 26 1/2 inches long. I think he's been raiding the fridge in the wee hours of the night.

Even though I know you aren't suppose to compare your children, I couldn't help it. I looked back through Aubrey's baby book to see where her weight and length were at this stage and she wasn't even close. She wasn't 17 1/2 pounds until somewhere between nine and ten months. Owen will most likely outweigh Aubrey... and probably by his first birthday. He may grow to be be taller, heavier, and even sronger, but I have no doubt that she will never let him forget who is older!
The Kids

I actually sat down to write this post almost a month ago. I said I
can't believe Owen is four months old. Scratch that. Now I can't
believe he is almost five moths old! Time flies when you're changing
diapers, sitting in story time and trying to reason with a two year old
(and losing)! I never realized how time consuming taking care of two
kids would be. Laundry seems to have quadrupled, my patience has been
cut in half, sleep seems to be a thing of the past and it's funny how Aubrey only has to go potty the minute I
sit down to feed Owen.

Even with the craziness, I love being a parent of two. It seems bizarre when someone asks me about my "kids" or when I say I have to go somewhere with the "kids". Those "kids" are doing quite well by the way. Owen is trying his best to roll over. He can roll from his tummy to his back (with very minimal help), but gets a little stuck when he tries to go the other way. I'm sure it will be any day and we'll find him rolling across the living room with Aubrey shouting, "Yeah Owen! He did it all by himself!" he is such a happy baby and you can't help but smile every time you look at him.

Aubrey's birthday is approaching quickly and the list of things she'll be able to do when she tuns three seems to be getting longer by the day. According to her, when she is three she'll be able to go to school (true), and drive the van (not so true). Owen couldn't ask for a better big sister. Aubrey is his biggest cheerleader and spurs him on towards new goals. In fact, during a particularly frustrating day last week Owen decided not to take one of his naps and thought it would be more fun to scream loud enough to wake the dead. I let out one of my what now seems to be my trademark sighs and Aubrey said, "Well, mommy he's JUST a baby!" How can I argue with that?
